The Faculty of Economics of UIN Malang sent 3 students, namely Zahwa Angelica from the Sharia Banking Study Program, Ragil Sukma Wicaksono from the Accounting Study Program, and Diana Puspita from the Management Study Program. This activity was a form of cross-country cooperation between the Faculty of Economics of UIN Maliki Malang and the Faculty of Economics at the University of Islamic Science Malaysia (USIM).
This activity also aims to broaden the participants’ academic horizons regarding the education system and Sharia economy in Malaysia, introduce a Sharia-based academic culture, and promote closer relations between Indonesia and Malaysia, where these two countries have many cultural and religious similarities. This activity took place from September 11 to 18, 2024.
This outbound mobility activity is packaged in the Edutour 2.0 program, where participants are invited to visit the Islamic Banking and Finance Institute Malaysia (IBFIM) and the Malaysian Financial Library, where they can see a collection of books and literature related to Islamic banking and finance, and provide in-depth insights into the history of the development of Islamic banks in Malaysia, Sharia instruments, and Sharia contract procedures in Islamic banking. Participants attended academic sessions delivered by experts from the field of Islamic finance. The first session discussed Islamic governance and insurance by Prof. Dato’ Dr. Mustafa Mohd Haneefah, followed by Tubagus Manshur who discussed Islamic auditing in Indonesia, and finally by Dr. Supiah Salleh who explained Islamic auditing in the cooperative sector. This activity was designed to enrich students’ understanding of risk and asset management in the Shariah Framework.
The delegates then participated in the 61st Malaysian Day celebrations by taking part in the Keret Api Sarong event, a cultural tradition that involves travelling by train while wearing traditional sarong clothing. UIN Malang delegates mingled with the local community while wearing Indonesian traditional clothing, adding colour to the celebration with art and cultural performances. This was a golden opportunity to introduce diversity in Indonesian culture into the Malaysian community.
The next session was the Muamalat Interactive Game (MIG) educational game, which is similar to a monopoly game but uses the principles of Sharia contracts. The aim was to introduce the concept of Islamic economics in a fun and interactive way and to teach the application of Islamic principles in daily transactions. Students were invited to think critically and creatively in solving tasks related to the concept of Islamic economics.
Participants also received materials on digital marketing in three different sessions. The first session introduced the concept of digital marketing in general, presented by the Owner of Motion People, a well-known advertising industry in Malaysia that has worked with major brands. The second session focused on personal branding presented by Mimpi Kita, a well-known fashion brand from Malaysia, and the third session was by Bro Syaf from FEM USIM staff, who explained content creation. These materials provide insights relevant to modern business trends and self-image management in the digital age.
At the closing ceremony, cultural performances were performed by each delegation. Ragil Sukma Wicaksono from FE UIN Maliki Malang presented the Baladewa Dance, a traditional dance from Banyumas, Central Java. On this occasion, the Best Participant award was also awarded to Ragil Sukma Wicaksono in recognition of his contribution and activity during the program. Indah Yuliana, the Vice Dean for Student Affairs, said that this activity provides a valuable experience that can be a provision in the academic and professional journey of students in the future. Through Outbound Mobility 2024, students are expected to develop their academic, social, and professional skills in an international environment, bringing the name of the Faculty of Economics of UIN Maliki Malang to the global arena.
